Adobe calls it quits for Flash for Mobile devices

After resolutely refuting the late Steve Jobs' claims that Flash simply doesn't work well on mobile devices, Adobe has called time on it's development on the flash browser plugin for mobiles. Flash has always been an omission from iOS devices, and a much touted selling point of Android smart phones and tablets, however Adobe realised that as a mobile browser plugin it simply isn't worth their development.

Adobe will continue to work on it's AIR platform and the authoring of mobile applications using Flash tools. It's not the absolute end of Flash, but with smartphones and tablets now definitively without a Flash browser plugin it will surely only be a matter of time before web authors look to other methods, such as using HTML5 rather than building adverts or interactive sites out of Flash.
