Top iPhone Apps for Effective Students

It is the end of the summer and students are returning back to school. Constantly evolving technology has all but supplied the entire globe with cell phones. When it comes to smartphones, the Apple iPhone is among the market leaders in appeal and usability. When students compare cell phone plans, they look for the best in terms of data supply, long distance coverage, and of course instant messaging. The iPhone has easily been one of the best choices when students compare cell phone plans not only because of its practicality, but also because of its widespread brand loyalty and buzz factor.

Apple continually comes up with leading edge technology and the iPhone is incredibly popular all over the world. Whenever Apple opens up a new store, people have been known to wait in line for hours merely for the sake of being one of the first one’s inside!

So now that students are preparing themselves with another year’s worth of education, they also look for the latest and greatest apps that might give them an edge when it comes to finals. Here is a brief list of top iPhone apps for students looking for the advantage in the ever-competitive world of education before they hit the even more competitive job market.

...

“iStudiez”

One of the most popular education apps on iTunes, this award winning app will help students organize their day, class schedule and assignments and remind students when an assignment needs to be turned in! There is both a “lite” and “Pro” version but at only $2.99 for the Pro version, it won’t break the bank of a student’s budget. Another competitor and one of the top paid education apps, iHomework is slightly more affordable at $1.99 and has many of the same features as the iStudiez Pro.

“Graphing Calculator”

What student doesn't need a graphing calculator? The graphic calculator is on Time magazine’s top apps for students and there is no question why. At just $1.99, students can have an incredible app that will do what most of the more primitive handheld calculators can do that list for over $100.

Math Apps

With cell phone apps, figuring out a math formula is so much easier now that there are an abundance of math apps. Among the best apps are: Algebra Touch at $2.99, Math Formulas Reference Guide at .99 and Wolfram Algebra Course Assistant at just $1.99.

“Documents to Go”

Are you one of the many users who are over ever using Microsoft software again? Well if you are a student, it is almost unavoidable. MS Office is still the industry leader, so if a student needs to alter a document on the fly, Documents to Go is the perfect solution. The app is $16.99 but offers a wide range of capabilities. Add that to its portability and it is a very worth app for any student.

“Wikipedia”

Anyone who needs to study at the last minute understands the need to have Wikipedia Mobile. There is clamor about some of the reliability of Wikipedia’s information but what student hasn't used Wikipedia for one of their assignments?

“Grades 2”

Grades 2 is a very cool app (extra cool for being educational) that enables the student to determine what grade he or she might need to have by inputting a target grade. The Grades 2 app also has a grade calculator.

“Star Walk – 5 Stars Astronomy Guide”

While not for everyone, Star Walk at only $2.99 is currently one of the top paid apps for education and an award winner. By allowing the app to use the user’s current location, it can help identify thousands of constellations and other objects in the sky. The 2nd highest paid educational app on iTunes is SkyView and is only $1.99. Skyview also has a free version to try out.

Bonus – For students who have iPads:

“Kno”

This free app by Kno is a must have for students on a tight budget. The days of having to buy a new algebra books for $150 are waning with the dawn of e-books. Prices of e-book downloads are 30-50% cheaper than real textbooks and are also more “green” in that e-textbooks obviously don’t use paper.

With the iPhone educational apps listed above, the student is much better prepared than students from a previous generation. However, in spite of using these cool apps, they still have to do the work!
