iPhone 3.0 rumours

Rumours have been flying around the internet at a fair rate about an Apple media event on Tuesday 17th March and more importantly that this event will talk about the new iPhone software 3.0

My video about the rumours is below, click on "read more" link below the video to see the rest of my written thoughts on this

The rumours about the software include:

  • MMS
  • Cut & Paste
  • Background running of apps
  • Tethering

These have all be doing the rounds for a long time now. The background running of apps and resultant Push technology was due to be in 2.0 and Apple were expected to implement this by October 2008. This never materialised for reasons unknown, so this surely is a given for 3.0

This rumoured update to 3.0 shouldn't really be a surprise, since the iPhone launch the software has seen an annual release timed to coincide with new hardware. I can't see this year will be any exception, afterall, the phone industry moves fast, and Apple are very unlikely to allow themselves to stagnate.

It is unlikely that any hardware will be announced on Tuesday, including any new iPhone. This is expected to be purely about the software. Any announcements / release of new iPhone hardware would be more likely to coincide with WWDC.
