BroadbandGenie have kindly submitted their picks of the best new Android devices this quarter. Once again I would like to thank them for donating their time in producing this.
It’s been a great year for Android smartphones and tablets, with the operating system going from strength to strength.
First we had version 2.3 (Gingerbread) taking a satisfying step forward on smartphones, then 3.0 (Honeycomb) doing the same for tablets. So what handheld hardware can we get our hands on soon to really make the most of it?

This is the big daddy right now, looking to directly challenge Apple’s iPad 2. Thinner, smaller and lighter with a powerful 1GHz dual-core processor, it will compete on everything – including price. Apple has just won a temporary injunction to stop it being sold in the EU, but don’t expect this to hold for long. With a bright 10-inch screen, up to 64GB of internal memory, front and back cameras and Wi-Fi, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is the top of the pile.
While the Galaxy may compete with the iPad 2 in a straight battle, HTC’s Flyer gives it a run for its money with its originality. It is a much smaller and chunkier device, with a seven-inch touchscreen and a 1.5GHz processor. There is 32GB of on-board memory, which can be supported by microSD cards, while the Android user interface has been augmented with HTC’s popular Sense UI. But best of all, it comes with HTC’s ‘Scribe’ technology – it ships with a ‘magic’ pen that lets you write directly on the screen, making notes on documents or web pages or altering documents.
Super slim but with a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, this stylish new smartphone will certainly turn some heads. It has a 3.7-inch Bravia display, with an 8.1-megapixel camera that shoots 720p HD video too – and all through a newly developed Exmor R lens. There’s a 1GHz snapdragon processor under the button, while the 1GB of on-board memory can be bumped up to 32GB with a microSD card.
Hitting the stores soon, the latest Android smartphone from HTC boasts a 3D capable qHD touchscreen and dual five-megapixel cameras, with 540x960 pixel resolution. There’s no need for 3D glasses, while you can upload the 3D videos you shoot straight to YouTube’s new 3D channel. It has a powerful 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 4.3-inch touchscreen and 2GB of storage (expandable to 32GB ), as well as HTC’s Sense UI.
