Microsoft has officially announced in a blog post that Windows 8 will indeed have an app store. This comes on the heels of the success Apple has enjoyed with the iOS and Mac App Stores. No other details are currently available, however it shouldn't come as a surprise. Microsoft had already suggested and app store would feature in the new version of Windows.

Now that it's official, it will be interesting to see how Microsoft implement their own take on digital downloads including licensing. Currently Apple allows for software purchased on the Mac App store to be installed on all of your home Macs at no extra charge. This will exert some pressure on Microsoft to allow more than one installation per purchase, however only time will tell.
