Griffin Capacitive Stylus

When the late Steve Jobs introduced the first iPhone to the world, he spoke out against a stylus as the input method of choice for a touch screen. He has a point, as a primary input method, a stylus is cumbersome. But with the rise of apps for handwriting and especially sketching apps like the superb Paper by 53, there’s still room for the use of a stylus.

With many different options for accessories available, does the Griffin do enough to make it a worthy contender?

Design

Griffin has elected for a pen like design, keeping the stylus slim like a ball point pen and even including a convenient pocket clip. Overall the look is quietly understated with a matt black metal shaft with chrome brightwork that brings out a pleasing look.

The tip is a soft rubber which is both gentle on your phone or tablet screen and provides a silky smooth action when swiping.

The weight feels enough to invoke confidence, yet not so heavy it’s like moving a brick.

Conclusion

Using the Griffin Capacitive Stylus is no hardship. It’s smooth gliding action really lends itself to sketching on your iDevice. No question it is a well thought out and manufactured product. In keeping the price sensible, Griffin have targeted the mass market. The only thing missing is some form of carry pouch or a cover for the soft tip when not in use.

At £19.95 you could do a lot worse than to pick the Griffin, it’s simple yet classy design, coupled with quality materials make this a real contender.
