WWDC ’13

With WWDC just around the corner, the media frenzy always kicks into overdrive. This year, among many rumoured items there will be a first look at a possible new OS X 10.9, as well as the world being introduced to the Jony Ive inspired iOS 7.

Many are expecting big changes, but it’s worth remembering that when Jony Ive was assigned to the task, development on iOS 7 would have been well underway. While we will doubtless see some big (and much needed) changes, I suspect iOS 8 will be the one to hold the biggest changes. Of course I would love to be proven wrong on this.

But with so much to look forward, sometimes it’s worth the occasional glance back to see some truly magical moments, such as when the first iPhone (and the then called iPhone OS, now iOS) was introduced at Macworld. It was a moment when the whole mobile phone industry was caught off guard. The world changed on that day, until then smartphones really were drab, uninspired, awkward to use, and the domain of business. After the iPhone, smartphones were mainstream, they were cool. They were, in fact, what people would expect of a phone.

Anyway enough from me, just sit back and enjoy this game changing moment.
